After more than twenty years from the beginning of the Catholic Mission in Turks and Caicos Islands, and looking at the large number of young people living here, the priests felt that that their mission would not have been complete without providing the Turks and Caicos Islands with the possibility of a Catholic Education. Indeed the Catholic Church is well aware that education has a strong influence on physical, intellectual and spiritual growth of the youth.
In 2004, this striking vision has led them to the ambitious project of Holy Family Academy. With the help of international experts in the educational field and in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey, U.S.A., an investigation of this project was made.
The project was presented to the local authorities, who gave their support to this initiative, seeing in it a service towards the entire community of the islands, following the tradition of excellence of Catholic education already well known in the Caribbean.
Holy Family Academy became a reality, opening its doors on 26th August 2006 with two classes, Kindergarten and First Grade and less than ten students. On 16th February 2007, The Most Reverend John Joseph Myers, Archbishop of Newark and Ecclesiastical Superior of the Mission in TCI, together with Mr. Richard Tauwhare, then Governor of the Islands, in the presence of other civil and religious authorities and distinguished guests inaugurated Holy Family Academy Catholic School.
Since then, each year a new class has been added to the school and today Holy Family Academy offers Pre-K to 7th Grade.
