Thank you for your interest in Holy Family Academy Catholic School and welcome to our new official website. The website has been developed to enable everyone to become familiar with our school, its policies and procedures, as well as to provide you with updated news, schedules and events.

Holy Family Academy Catholic School takes great pride in providing a safe and secure learning environment which allows our students to flourish and grow spiritually, intellectually, emotionally and socially, while offering an exciting and challenging academic program.

Every aspect of our school is designed with an unrelenting focus on the needs of our students. We offer a stimulating environment, small class sizes, individualized instruction when needed, and a variety of fine arts and activities. Our curriculum and approach is unique, preparing students properly for a world that is becoming increasingly complex, where success is driven not only by what you know, but by what you can do with what you know. It is our goal to nurture each child to reach his or her unique potential, and develop character, integrity, and service to others modeled by Jesus Christ. Our staff is composed of certified and qualified, highly skilled and motivated missionary and local teachers.

While we are proud of the achievements of our students, we strive first and foremost to rejoice in them as children. Our aim is to balance each child’s need for an enhanced learning experience with their equal need for their spiritual development as well as age appropriate play and social activities. Our mission is to provide a warm, caring and safe environment in which all students succeed in developing the knowledge, social and spiritual skills they need to be independent thinkers and future leaders.

MISSION

Holy Family Academy's Mission

Holy Family Academy is a catholic faith community instituted on the Gospel. We cultivate in our students a love for life and learning, and respect, integrity and service to others modeled by Jesus Christ. We are proud to offer our students with the highest academic standards in a safe and secure learning environment where all students are given the opportunities to grow and flourish according to their God given talents. We believe that our students are called, by Christ to be “The Light of the World” and every learning and spiritual experience in school is touched by this biblical statement.

PHILOSOPHY

We BELIEVE that all children are unique and have the God given right to develop their full potential academically, emotionally and spiritually; and we furnish our students with the proper experiences to succeed and develop in all of these areas.

We PROVIDE, with the help of God and his teachings, an atmosphere which favors the spiritual and intellectual development of the abilities of each student.

We UTILIZE the subject matter of each class, the intellectual and moral talents of the teachers and the exchange of experiences between students and teachers.

We SHARE our catholic faith daily through prayer, liturgical celebrations and special events throughout the year.

We WORK together with our families and the wider community to nurture the whole child.

We PRODUCE mature young adults with an elevated cultural background and spirit of service for the good of the entire Turks and Caicos Islands community and beyond.

SCHOOL HISTORY

Holy Family Academy opening its doors on 26th August 2006

HFA school

After more than twenty years, from the beginning of the Catholic Mission in the Turks and Caicos Islands and looking at the large number of young people living here, the priests felt that their mission would not have been complete without providing the Turks and Caicos Islands with the possibility of a Catholic Education. Indeed the Catholic Church is well aware that education has a strong influence on the physical, intellectual and spiritual growth of the person.

In 2004, this striking vision led them to the ambitious project of Holy Family Academy. With the help of international experts in the educational field and in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey, U.S.A., an investigation of this project was made. The project was presented to the local authorities, who gave their support to this initiative, seeing in it a service towards the entire community of the islands, following the tradition of excellence of Catholic education already well known in the Caribbean.

Holy Family Academy became a reality in August 2006, opening its doors to residents of the island with two classes, Kindergarten and First Grade and less than ten students. On the 16th of February 2007, the Most Reverend John Joseph Myers, prior Archbishop of Newark and Ecclesiastical Superior of the Missio Sui Iuris in the Turks and Caicos Islands, together with Mr. Richard Tauwhare, then Governor of the Islands, in the presence of other civil and religious authorities inaugurated Holy Family Academy.

Since then, each year a new class has been added to the school and today, Holy Family Academy offers, Pre-K to 11th grade with an optional 12th grade for students preparing to attend college in the U.S.A.

The school has been cultivating seeds of spiritual growth in our students, equipping them with all-around abilities so that they can contribute to society, serve others and above all, glorify the Lord.

SCHOOL LOGO

HFA logo

The Holy Family in the logo represents the mission of the school, which is to recover the brokenness of the family through the announcement of the love of God. The family is the basic unit of society. The model of the Holy Family is to live in humility, simplicity and praise where the other is Christ.

The three stars are a connection with Our Lady of Divine Providence Catholic Church. They are the three stars that appear in the Blessed Virgin Mary’s iconography. Our mother, the Virgin Mary is always hidden and interceding.

The cactus, known as Turks Head, is the cactus of the Turks and Caicos Islands. Since the red, wool-coated cephalium of the plant is similar to the Fez hat of the Turkish male citizens during the late Ottoman Empire, the name for the plant is Turk’s cap cactus.

Wisdom and Knowledge are represented through the image of the book.
